In early 2016 The Middle Township Police Department developed the Street Crimes Unit. This unit was formed to combat quality of life issues within the township and to handle all drug investigations. The unit works closely with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force.

Primarily working plain clothed operations, members of the unit are led by Sergeant Kurt Saettler and are under the command of Lt. Tracey Super. The unit conducts numerous undercover operations to include narcotics, prostitution and gang related investigations.

The unit also assists the Patrol Division and Major Crimes Unit in areas of criminal activity with surveillance and plain clothed operations.

The unit is made up of three officers. Sergeant Kurt Saettler and Corporal John Norton are permanently assigned to the unit, while additional officers from the patrol division work assignments within the unit for up to one year.
